Traineeships

The Traineeship is a course which will help if you are having difficulty finding work. It may be that you have little or no work experience. Your recent qualifications may have been a disappointment, or you may not have a great deal of confidence. Whatever the reason, the Traineeship will provide you with the opportunity to improve your chances of getting the job you are looking for.

The programme is sixteen weeks long with the majority of the time spent on work experience with an employer. In addition to this, you will also attend weekly training sessions, which will enable you to improve your knowledge and skills away from the workplace and give you additional help with English and Maths (if you need it).

You will be paid £50 on a weekly basis (£800 total for the duration of the programme).

At the end of the Traineeship, it is hoped that the experience you have gained and the new skills learnt will enable you to move into a job either with your placement provider, or another employer. If this is the case, you may well want to progress on to the Apprenticeship and develop your career through one of the country’s most successful programmes.

The Traineeship is a programme which has proved to be very successful in helping young people to gain employment and in doing so, open the door to the Apprenticeship and a clear career path. If you feel that you may need some more support to help you achieve your aims, the Traineeship may well be the programme for you.

Entry Requirements

The Traineeship is open to anyone aged 16 to 24 with a strong commitment to learning.

You will receive:

a work experience placement
weekly training sessions
help with English and maths (if you need it)
a weekly payment of £50 per week (£800 total for the duration of the programme)

Functional Skills

Functional Skills, in English and Maths, enables employees to be competent and confident at work and are just as relevant to young people starting their careers, as they are to those adults established in their job.

Functional skills are designed to provide an individual with the knowledge that will enable them to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and at work and are an essential part of the programme.

The Traineeship programme includes Functional Skills because they demonstrate a person can communicate both orally and in writing, tackle numerical problems and use IT effectively within their role.

Funding Available

The Traineeship programme is viewed by the government as a key element within its plans to develop skill levels and qualifications within the UK. With this in mind, Traineeship programmes attract public funding and are delivered free of charge.

What next?

The Traineeship is designed to provide the guidance and support necessary to help a young person get into work. The successful completion of the course will give you the opportunity to:

Get a full time job and move on to the Apprenticeship.
Gain a full time job but without training.
Further training/education.

We will seek to safeguard all our learners by:

· Respecting them and listening to their concerns.
· Supporting all learners who disclose information or concerns to us.
· Adopting safeguarding guidelines through policies, procedures and a code of conduct for staff.
· Recruiting staff safely.
· Sharing information about concerns with agencies that need it, and involving learners and their parents/carers appropriately.
· Protecting learners, wherever possible, from all types of abuse.
Your responsibilities

· To respect other people’s rights to safety.
· Not to hurt or abuse others.
· Not to threaten to hurt or abuse others.
· Treat everyone with respect and fairness.
· Accept everyone is different and don’t discriminate.
If you think you are being harmed or abused by another learner, someone at work or someone at McArthur Dean Training, you should report this as soon as possible.

What will McArthur Dean Training do if I report abuse?
The designated person will:

· Listen to your concerns.
· Respect your feelings.
· Ask you questions about your concerns.
· Support you, wherever possible in the process.
· Share information about your concerns only with agencies that need it, and involve parents/carers appropriately.

Prevent

Prevent is part of a wider strategy of counter terrorism in this country. Training providers, colleges and schools now have a duty to ensure they are aware of the strategy and what actions to take in order to stop people being radicalised, becoming terrorists or supporting terrorists.

It is our duty as a training provider to be aware of the signs of radicalisation and understand the referral channels available. The Prevent strategy will form part of our policies, procedures and Safeguarding Policy and will be embedded where possible into appropriate teaching sessions to raise awareness with learners and employers. A key element of the strategy will be to protect our British values and prevent any threat to them
