Case Study | Hollie

Hollie – Deputy Charge Nurse – NHS

Hollie is a Deputy Charge Nurse for the Inpatient Care Unit at the Beverley Mental Health Unit and is currently studying for the Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard at Level 3 here at McArthur Dean. Hollie is pleased with the progress she is making on the Apprenticeship and feels that “the qualification has given me space to learn specific knowledge and theories, which impact on my role.”

So far, Hollie has completed modules around leading and managing people, and has explored areas that affect her day-to-day duties, such as HR processes, managing sickness, disciplinary, refinance, bullying and harassment: “We have also looked into how to motivate staff, manage performance through appraisals and how to deliver feedback”. Hollie has pushed herself within the skill section of the qualification, giving her the confidence to deliver tasks such as coaching and managing conflict within her own job role.

In terms of support, Hollie has been able to improve her knowledge and develop new skills through regular classes where she: “explores the knowledge sections, learning the theories and models”.  In addition to this, she also benefits from monthly one-to-one sessions with her assessor, Sandie Gifford. “Sandie has come out to my practice spending time with me exploring my role and helping me to complete assessments which contribute toward my overall results. I also have support via email in which there is always a timely response to any queries I have raised.”

The Apprenticeship is helping Hollie to improve her knowledge and develop new skills within her job and it can do the same for you.  If you would like more information on how you can join the Apprenticeship programme, please contact us now at or call 01482 210093 and ask for the Business Development Team.
