Case Study | Mason Baggott & Garton

Mason Baggott & Garton are a family run firm of solicitors based in Scunthorpe, with offices in Brigg and Epworth. They were established over 120 years ago (originally as Goy, Cross & Co) and have strong links with the North Lincolnshire area.

Over the last four years, McArthur Dean have enjoyed a successful relationship with the firm and a number of Trainees and Apprentices have progressed into permanent employment upon completing their training programmes. Matt recently met with Practice Manager Tim Bartlett, to learn more about how the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Programmes have worked for them and the learners they have recruited.

We have a strong relationship with McArthur Dean and a good link with Julie Curtis, who has helped us recruit all of our Apprentices. Through our dealings she knows just the sort of candidate that best suits the company, and she knows that they have a great opportunity here to progress.”

Before working at the company, Tim was an Apprenticeship Assessor with another training provider, so he knows first hand the benefit of work based learning.

It’s a safe and supportive way to get proper work experience, gain new skills and qualifications. It allows a person to grow in confidence too, all the while taking their first steps on the career ladder.”

At present, Mason Baggott & Garton have four members of staff who have either completed, or are completing, an Apprenticeship through McArthur Dean. The newest addition to the team is Ryan Smith, who has recently started working as a Business Administrator.

They also have Hayley Blackett, who is currently undertaking a Legal Executive course having completed her Traineeship and Apprenticeship in Business Administration. Lewis Cadman also completed his Business Administration Apprenticeship and is now working as a Conveyancing Assistant. Last (but not least) is Paige Stevens, who was their first Apprentice through McArthur Dean. Paige originally worked on the reception in their Brigg office, before moving into Probate, and more recently progressing into a role as a Conveyancing Secretary.
