Case Study | Sophie Leslie

Sophie came to McArthur Dean after having tried university, but finding that the course was not right for her: “When I completed my A Levels in 2016, I was guided towards university by my college, but I found that I did not enjoy the course and so decided to leave.” Sophie left university and returned home just after Christmas in 2017 and then found it difficult to find work, so she turned to the Apprenticeship Programme as a way to get started.

I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do, but my mum had heard about McArthur Dean online and so I contacted them to see what opportunities they had. I was quickly invited in for an interview and within just a couple of days, they had managed to find me two employer interviews!” Sophie was successful in her interview with Fresh Start UK Ltd, a debt management company based in Hull, and within two weeks of having her first interview with McArthur Dean, she was starting her new job.

“I enjoyed completing my apprenticeship and I had a really good relationship with Belinda, who was my assessor. I found the structure to be really straightforward and simple to follow, with regular assessments, reviews and training sessions.” Sophie initially started out in an office support role, helping with various administrative duties such as organising and sorting incoming and outgoing mail, dealing with files and scanning documents, as well as speaking to customers and clients over the phone.

Sophie was successful in completing her Apprenticeship and she was taken on by the employer on a permanent basis, being given more responsibilities and cementing herself in the team. More recently, Sophie has been promoted into a higher role, becoming the Team Leader of the Admin Department!

Sophie now leads a team of seven, where she supports and trains staff, ensures FCA regulations are met and maintains positive relationships with clients, customers and creditors.

I would 100% recommend McArthur Dean and the Apprenticeship Programme to anybody who is unsure about going to university. It’s been a great experience for me and it could be for you too!”
